Cycling NZ - Day 19 - I’m Zapped!

Today is not the day to talk about angels. No. Just need a reality check today cos I’m zapped.

Something is still not right. Whilst the sore throat has almost completely gone and no further sneezing events I’m still grobbeling up something horrid and both of my nasal cavities are still loaded with stuff that resembles a tin hot glue both in texture and colour - and volume.

I’m also still having night sweats waking up each night about 2 am with the bloody Zulus hovering over me with a watering can leaving me in a pool of water all cold and horrid and wet. Then going to the bathroom at 0215 to grab a towel..

I wake most days about 6am and have coffee about 7. In on my way between 8 and 9 for breakfast then away on the leg before 10.

Today kinda got off ok. Blood sugar last night was ok but a little high this morning. Not bad really. Just raised a bit.

Now for the last few days my knees have been complaining a bit….

You know what. I’m in a crappy hotel in Wellington in the middle of what could be their chinatown. A big let down for New Zealand. Just like being in a nasty little place in London. Seems to be standard fare for capital cities, huh.

I feel very very tired. I’ve had a rot of a cycle day today. Pushing with legs that now feel big and solid but are bereft of energy. In fact I’m finding it difficult to find the energy to concentrate and write.

Ive spoken to a few folk in country about how I am. They suggest I’ve caught covid. Apparently it’s rife here right now. I’ve gotta say it’s all in the chest really with night fevers and aches and pains. But also theres been many times I’ve eaten stuff with apparently no taste.  I guess thats the tell tale…

Anyway whether covid or a cold or other it has left me feeling drained. Normally when tour cycling I just get better and better every day. Not here though. I know the Timber Trail was mad but I should be well over that now.

Sorry, no japes with silly thoughts tonight. I’m gonna get some food and go to bed.

I can have a lie in tomorrow as I’m booked on the 2.30pm ferry to Picton on South Island and I’m staying in Picton for the night.

I’ll chat tomorrow about my cycling options but 2 of them have I think about 25000 ft of ascent each over @300 miles to get to Christchurch. Option 3 is the lower main road around the coast and right now thats the way I’m going…. Whichever way I go its likely I’ll be camping a bunch of it just cos it’s a remote part of this world.

I have time in hand to see how I go and to plan accordingly. And options in case this little bout of whatever it is continues to debilitate me.

Just need to take care of myself šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘

Ciao for now
