Cycling NZ26 - pre departure!

Just following on from my last post - A WARNING - if I ever offer to make you a cheese sandwich with mayo may I suggest that you politely decline... 😝

Anyway, for those of you who may be following my prep for New Zealand then, well, tommorrow is departure day.  I travelled to the airport for an overnight stay today and will be spending way too much time in a reclining chair with Kathy Pathetic who will be taking me all the way starting 10.30am Tuesday.  Arriving 07:00 in Auckland New Zealand on Thursday.  

I promised myself, nay I double promised myself that there would be no mad rush in the last 2 weeks.  I was determined not to get my knickers in a twist the day before travelling.  But hey, I am an idiot and to be honest I work at my absolute best when under a bit of pressure.  A teensy bit like being back at work really except this is the type of pressure that I can take.  

I've eaten everything in the house.  At her insistence I've licked Madmoiselle Frigo's bits clean of all the cheese, even the hairy stuff has been consumed but to be honest I don't recall buying any stilton recently 🤔.  Anyway, she's all clean now. 😝  

Poor old Dawes.  She's still strapped to the magnetic trainer and you know what I decided not to release her from it.  No, she's gagging to go too but sorry my love this journey would break you.   I looked into her upturned dewey eyes, said sorry dahling, and just as she started her reply I pushed one of my large tumble dryer balls betwix her calliper lips and quickly strapped it in place.  'You're just gonna have to accept the fact that, well, this is just the way it's gonna be my dahling until we next meet.  Perhaps in 5 weeks time.'  ‘Ga ga cog ooh plrbst’ she tried to say.  No my darling you cannot come too...  her muffled gaaagh gh! 😩  wail almost melted my heart.  ‘I know I know.  Don't worry dear, I will take you on a joyful ride when I get home.’  

As I turn my back on her and just before closing the kitchen door I look back and say 'The heating will be off too.  I hope you don't mind... bye...'

For those of you interested and watching how a fat old man may be preparing for his epic adventure then just watch this video.  Too many folk don't do things in this life because of the 'what if something goes wrong' kinda fear.  Let’s just accept it that things WILL go wrong but I have only ever found folk keen to help whenever it does.  Do not wrap yourself up in cotton wool I say.  Do not fear this life.  Have a go!   You will be pleasantly surprised!

Thanks for watching.  Hopefully you get my drift. It'll either put you off for life or perhaps with the other vids when done may encourage you to have a go too.  

There's a bunch of house related stuff still to do before I leave today but hey that's just part of normal life innit?  

Must stay out of the kitchen though...

It’s 0240 am Zulu and I cannot sleep. Cycling NZ26 - Day 7 - Mozzie Hell!

It’s 0408 zulu. My sleeping bag is full of dead mosquitoes.  Only a short update here to confirm that I am still alive.  Yesterday was start of the Timber trail. An unearthly hard grade of rock strewn washed out trail and logging track. No place for a fat man and his moose of a bike. No real beauty in this place as all I can see for miles and miles is native virgin vegetation all around.  Best laid plans n all that. Well, because I did not know what lay ahead some rearrangement of the bike was needed so that I could fit it out with stores. Cold rations.    A large pack of soft white tortillas, jars of peanut butter and hazelnut and chocolate spread. Cheese triangles and smoked chorizo plus handfuls of chocolate bars. Plus huge quantities of water. The bike now weighs a ton.  One thousand times perhaps I wrestled the sucker over washout and fallen trees and up impossible grades. Cycling NZ26 - the 6 Million Dollar Bolt!

It’s 3.36 am Zulu. Local Time.  My name is Jake Sully.  I’ve just awoken from a very deep dreamless sleep. So unlike me except for the very very early rise. There’s a mixture of apprehension and even more apprehension coursing through my body as I lay in bed typing this codswallop into my phoney friend.  The flight to New Zealand was uneventful. Long, yes. Boring, yes. Uneventful. Unlike in the film AVATAR , Kathy Pathetic’s wannabe Boing Dreamliner completely failed to put me into deep hibernation. Desperate to be away with the fairies was I but no, not yet, Wayne. Eventually perhaps when Kathy has had her way with me and at a time yet to be given to me by the Lord of the Rings.  I will eventually lose my thrust on this long long flight amongst the stars and come back down to Earth.
