Remember Remember the 5th of November

Memories.  Hmmm.  

Mine is broken.  How many times have I found myself at the top of the stairs frozen to the spot thinking 'what the hell have I come up here for?' before going downstairs and finding some 5 minutes later that lost memory?  And then later lose the memory again and so forget to go upstairs!  Or carry important things about the house like medical letters or my wallet or phone or car keys and randomly put the feckers down somewhere and immediately forget where I put them!  Especially when I'm in a rush!  I'd apple tag everything if I could including that little clean laundry basket reserved for my never to be found again underwear.  Gahhhh!  

I also dream frequently.  I often describe my nights when asleep as my 'other life'.  Some dreams stay with me forever.  As though remembering a moment in time truly lived.  Others just fizzle away.  

I wake up most mornings with a clear recollection of the silliness that passed during the night in that dark projectionists room between my ears.  One such movie is of me trying to run and struggling to go anywhere.  As though leaning hard into an invisible wind.  Ugh!  Or of late quite the opposite; again running but this time breathlessly, as light and as free as a feather in a hurricane with huge speed down the streets across my home city of York.  I wake up wishing for more! but then lay in my pit staring at the ceiling as I feel the memory fizzle away.  It is palpable.  I concentrate hard but no, I cannot stop it from going.  It's as though I'm watching Bing Bong (no not Donald Trump) in the film Inside Out slowly fading.  Nothing is left except for a wide eyed tear on my pillow and a clear mind ready for the start of the day.  

I guess that's just how it is for me.  Some say that we Humans only use 10% of our brain's actual capacity.  Well, all I can say as a small brained big boned Neanderthal and after 62 years of feeding a faulty FIFO memory with junk information, is that I'm definitely suffering from buffer overflow.  Which perhaps explains a lot!

Tomorrow is the 5th of November.  An infamous day in English history.  A celebration of the gunpowder plot in 1605 and the 'failed murderous attempt by group of English Catholics to kill the King, led by Robert Catesby, the ringleader, and famously, Guy Fawkes who was born in York.  Guy Fawkes was the man responsible for guarding the gunpowder, who with others, had plotted to kill King James I of England because he would not end the religious persecution of the English Catholics' (1)

An effigy of Guy Fawkes will be burnt on bonfires all over the land with plentiful fireworks, big booms and flashes in the mix.

The 5th of November this year is also the American Presidential Election.  

Apparently the same is going to happen in the USA too?  How worried should you be for a gun totin' massively politically polarised nation such as the USA?  A lot perhaps if their election ends up being close.  When asked if he will abide by the results of the election, Trump, who has also got all the Catholics on his side, to paraphrase, said 'Yes, but only if the election is fair and legal'.  That sounds to me like a confidence man deep at work having already packed a billion tons of dynamite under the US Capitol, threatening to blow up the World.  And unless someone jumps on him to shut the fecker up (at about 11pm EST please), he will cause a bang louder than the big one.  

It's not often I share my opinions in this blog issit?  So here you go.  

Donald J Trump is a horror of a man.  A Pennywise clown from a truly dark circus show that has somehow disembowelled the Republican party and replaced the sane of mind with a collection of characters from the Banana Splits show.  He displays not one iota of any qualities that could ever be described as 'presidential'.  

Even the Catholics don't like him.  Really.  Yes, really, they don't (gahh, I'm starting to write like he speaks!).  But, hey, he's their best bet for turning the whole of the USA into a mad fundamental Christian Republic.  With Guns!  How could any man or woman alive ever do all that he has done and not only get away with it but remain the Republican party's candidate for the presidency?  

Have you already forgotten all of his criminal actions and, to me the main one, his terrible terrible leadership with the pandemic which resulted in A MILLION American lives being lost??  Remember?  Remember?   

I thought the incompetence was truly bad on this side of the pond.  However, our parliamentary clowns are nowhere near as twisted and vicious as theirs.  After work, in their darkened gentlemen's club Big Tops, our MP's secretly watch Fox News playing background carny music and, whilst sipping port and smoking custard pies, applaud loudly and shout bravo! whilst watching The Donald, the master of ceremonies, at work. 

Finally the Iranians will realise that after all of this time they have finally got their wish.  A true SATAN of a man might be in charge of the USA.  The Christian Americans will show everyone the right way to be a fundamentalist.  Running 'how to' classes for ISIS.  Yes they will.  Yes they will.  With the world's biggest military they may just restart the Crusades where we left off.  And they've got lots of nuclear weapons too!

The anti-Christ is praying that his strategy works.  The Republicans will continue to spin like tops going one way and then the other but eventually falling into line as did the Germans behind Hitler.   The democrats right now are sat atop plies of shit having no time to change their nappies being that they have stuffed their fingers so deep in their mouths and chewed their nails down to the quick whilst watching every scary social media screen going.  

If it does, then overnight the world will become a different place.  I reckon the institutions in the USA will not hold and will fall to the relentless forces that an empowered narcissistic autocrat will set loose.  I don't remember but you think 1933 was a bad year, huh?  Jimmy Kimmel plus many other US comedians and other intellectual pundits and politicians will race south across the Mexican border and will pray that there is no extradition agreement in place.  Not a chance.  The Mexicans will use them as hostages to swap in lieu of not receiving back the millions and millions (says SATAN) of immigrants, in a clever way that would make Hamas blush.

I just did a bit of time travel in my minds eye and found this clip in the dark deep corners between my ears.  Of Donald Trump being refused entry by his pet eunuck, J. D. Vance, into a Senate full of vestal virgins (so that won't be in Florida then) as Arnold Palmer pulls his big chopper out thus scaring Trump into uttering those famous prophetic words - hopefully after losing the 2024 election.

Here at home we are reminded every year of the Catholic's attempt to perform Regicide and blow up the Houses of Parliament.  Through the burning of an effigy on our bonfires and with gunpowders bright and sparkly.  This is in fact a light weight and incorrect representation of his actual torture to obtain a confession; his trial and execution through hanging and quartering.  Whereupon his body parts were then distributed to the four corners of the kingdom to be displayed as a warning to other would be traitors (2).

Apparently though this memory was not shared with and so was not taken across the Atlantic by the Pilgrims some 15 years later.  A group of folk who did not live in any of the corners; just in the middle bits.   So it is not remembered, nor recalled today by our friends the Americans as a possible outcome should one of them ever get fruity and try to change the way things are done.

Memory, yes, I hope your's, dear old USA, is substantially better than mine.  And that from this week on and forever more you place a major bloody event in everyone's Apple calendars that is the antithesis to your Thanksgiving celebrations; to ensure that YOU REMEMBER what happened on that day and ensure that it never happens again.
