The Dragons Teeth

Who knew?  A Strawberry Sundae is a lifesaver.  I've tried to be a good boy.  I eat loads, you know that.  But I try my best to keep off of the raw sugary stuff.  Until now.  

Yesterday I was lifeless.  My legs had fecked off somewhere leaving me with jelly filled bags.  Well that's what it felt like.  De-energised even on the flat stuff.  It was a burning hot day for sure.  Yes that must be it.  I positively leaked with sweat.  Wringing wet with the stuff.  And almost zero in the fuel tank.  

And then I had a Strawberry Sundae in all of its sugary loveliness.  On a HOT day.  Mmmmm.  15 minutes later my legs reappeared from no fecking where and were off!  Cruising at 17mph on a loaded mountain bike!  Sugar!  I need Sugar!  Who knew!  For sure not the fecking pill pusher back home!

What particularly worried me was today's ride though.  Not a lot in the blog today cos I've been working all evening and this morning to find that ever elusive route though the hills.  Keeping the distance to a minimum and also the ascent.  What I've drawn is an impressive set of dragons teeth.

Loads of snarly hill climbs everywhere.  There's no avoiding it.  Fecking baby Garrowby hills surround us.  It's all about selecting the babies you prefer.  Like some bar steward adoption agency.  

Need to press on.  And get that early start going.  Good news is it is cloudy, about 10 degrees cooler than yesterday and with a tail wind.  No rain in the forecast until the end of the day :-)

Nonetheless, a bit more RAW video of me and Brad the lad riding along the Bridgewater and Taunton Canal.  Why not have a ride along with us for a bit......


I don't think I could've planned it any better??  Except for telling myself wrongly to avoid RAW sugar.  Morrisons next for breakfast cos this hotel is crap, only giving a bed in a fecking warm room...

There's gonna be an explosion in the Morrisons cake isle in 30 minutes!

Cycling NZ26 - Day 7 - Mozzie Hell!

It’s 0408 zulu. My sleeping bag is full of dead mosquitoes.  Only a short update here to confirm that I am still alive.  Yesterday was start of the Timber trail. An unearthly hard grade of rock strewn washed out trail and logging track. No place for a fat man and his moose of a bike. No real beauty in this place as all I can see for miles and miles is native virgin vegetation all around.  Best laid plans n all that. Well, because I did not know what lay ahead some rearrangement of the bike was needed so that I could fit it out with stores. Cold rations.    A large pack of soft white tortillas, jars of peanut butter and hazelnut and chocolate spread. Cheese triangles and smoked chorizo plus handfuls of chocolate bars. Cycling NZ26 - the 6 Million Dollar Bolt!

It’s 3.36 am Zulu. Local Time.  My name is Jake Sully.  I’ve just awoken from a very deep dreamless sleep. So unlike me except for the very very early rise. There’s a mixture of apprehension and even more apprehension coursing through my body as I lay in bed typing this codswallop into my phoney friend.  The flight to New Zealand was uneventful. Long, yes. Boring, yes. Uneventful. Unlike in the film AVATAR , Kathy Pathetic’s wannabe Boing Dreamliner completely failed to put me into deep hibernation.
