Avengers Assemble!

Whilst I am riding the full length of the UK from John O Groats to Lands End I will not be riding alone at all times.

Somehow I've convinced some EX BT'ers, friends right now but perhaps not later, to ride sections with me as follows. 

London Alan (Alan Walls) is riding from John O Groats to Carlisle with me and then rejoining for the Bristol to Lands End section.  He has developed falling off bikes and over things into a fine art of 'not hurting oneself' in the process of doing so.  I hate it when he rides close to gutters and kerbs - especially if here is a 400ft drop to his left!  My sphinchter positively grips the saddle in anticipation of a thrilling spill!

South Side Mark (Mark Brand) is also riding from John O Groats to Carlisle but significantly faster than a fat bloke could ever do so he will get the trophy for being the one to bag Scotland first.  Somewhat of an outrider he's always the one at the front of the posse and will positively spot the injuns which always gives us time to circle the bikes.  Especially when in Glasgow.

David the Gentle Giant (David Hamilton) will meet up with us in Inverness whilst on our way back down and will ride through to Glasgow so getting the trophy for bagging the Trossachs (fnar)

And finally my nephew Brad the Lad (Brad Tyssen) will join me in Preston for the ride down to Hereford.  He has 22 year old legs and whichever way I look at it he's always gonna beat me to the top of every hill.  Oh to have 22 year old legs again...

And then there's me.  A 59 year old fat bloke who nowadays spends too much time contemplating the effects of riding a bike on his bits.  Which will always include Ma Boy and Our Lass (Left and right knee).  Hairy Melon - go on guess.  Ma boys aka the chucke brothers who give me that 'to me to you' feeling whenever I park hairy onto the saddle.  And of course Balloon dog - you know - Balloon dog! 

So I'll always have company.  For sure there will be no days riding alone!

It’s 0240 am Zulu and I cannot sleep. Cycling NZ26 - Day 7 - Mozzie Hell!

It’s 0408 zulu. My sleeping bag is full of dead mosquitoes.  Only a short update here to confirm that I am still alive.  Yesterday was start of the Timber trail. An unearthly hard grade of rock strewn washed out trail and logging track. No place for a fat man and his moose of a bike. No real beauty in this place as all I can see for miles and miles is native virgin vegetation all around.  Best laid plans n all that. Well, because I did not know what lay ahead some rearrangement of the bike was needed so that I could fit it out with stores. Cold rations.    A large pack of soft white tortillas, jars of peanut butter and hazelnut and chocolate spread. Cheese triangles and smoked chorizo plus handfuls of chocolate bars. Plus huge quantities of water. The bike now weighs a ton.  One thousand times perhaps I wrestled the sucker over washout and fallen trees and up impossible grades. Cycling NZ26 - the 6 Million Dollar Bolt!

It’s 3.36 am Zulu. Local Time.  My name is Jake Sully.  I’ve just awoken from a very deep dreamless sleep. So unlike me except for the very very early rise. There’s a mixture of apprehension and even more apprehension coursing through my body as I lay in bed typing this codswallop into my phoney friend.  The flight to New Zealand was uneventful. Long, yes. Boring, yes. Uneventful. Unlike in the film AVATAR , Kathy Pathetic’s wannabe Boing Dreamliner completely failed to put me into deep hibernation. Desperate to be away with the fairies was I but no, not yet, Wayne. Eventually perhaps when Kathy has had her way with me and at a time yet to be given to me by the Lord of the Rings.  I will eventually lose my thrust on this long long flight amongst the stars and come back down to Earth.
