NC500 - Video: Rhiconich to Tongue
I spend lots of time watching and rewatching the videos as I put them together. I still cannot believe we did the NC500.
Overall it was much harder than the LEJOG thing that I did last year. When I did the LEJOG thing I bumped into a couple of Italians, the first (David) close to the start of the NC500 as we rode together into Inverness, the second (Mirco) close to the end near Thurso. It was then that the seed of doing the NC500 was planted in me but with some trepidation. I did not know what cycling the route would be like but I knew from my motorcycle adventures it was remote and mountainous and whilst it is absolutely glorious on a good day it can be pretty bad on a bad one.
This day was cold and wet and is summed up by the title of this video. Survival. It's the word used by London Alan to describe his thoughts after seeing the weather forecast and after 10 days of hard continuous cycling. We're both tired. We're gonna get wet and cold. Again. There is no option to go back as its as far that way as it is to complete the journey. We're at the point of no return. Time to grit our teeth and carry on.
The video articulates just how we coped with the weather and our absolute anger towards the [very few] discourteous drivers. Here it is. Apologies again for the swearing.
Nonetheless, days like these are truly life affirming.
I’m still gobsmacked that we did the NC500. It now seems so far behind us. For sure many great memories and thank you again to Alan for riding with me.
