LEJOG - Wots the day today Wal?
Last night was a hot wet horror of a night in a small warm room. Sweating profusely with bad dreams where I was in a discussion whether I should be buried or not - peeping from inside the coffin to the usher saying 'but I'm not dead yet..' to encourage him to postpone the funeral. Sorry about that for a start of the blog. I'm still not settled...
Anyway what day is it today Wal? Sunday? Monday? Tuesday? Crocky Dundee style, I haven't a clue. And have not had a clue for the last 2 weeks or so. It's only when writing this dribble that I very occasionally look up and see the calendar atop my screen. Just to get the day rolling its again a laundrette day to take the weeping damp wet stuff from my pannier and give them a good bath and towelling dry. Then to a bike shop to get my last order of rehydration tablets for the last leg.
The crap nav says I've done 893 miles but add a bit for the few times I've forgotten to turn the lying so n so on to stop me swearing so much so I'm now close to 900. Thats well past two thirds and so into the last leg. Here it is, approx 285 miles. I'm just about doing half the Scottish North West 500 too at the same time - phew!
My itinerary looks like this
Today its all day in Inverness
Tuesday I'll arrive Bonar Bridge
Wednesday I'll arrive Bettyhill
Thursday I'll arrive Thurso
Friday is John o'Groats Day - arriving about midday before staying overnight in 'gizza' Keiss. Saturday, Sunday and Monday to be planned yet but Tuesday 12th is the direct train back home from Inverness.
Yes Yes Yes I know I said I might go back over the top and down the west and perhaps even cycle all the way back home. I know I'm good for it now and 40 - 60 miles a day is a good solid ride on a loaded bike. But I need to think about Kathryn too. I've been a very selfish puppy in that I've been AWOL since the 14th May.
It's mainly single track roads going up across and back down. It's gonna get quiet. Time to meditate a bit and it'll be good to be away from all the hard energy in the lands beneath me. Weather forecast looks good. Cool with light clouds but oh just how bad could it be.
I'll write a little more later today after I've taken the snivelling whimpering pile of doggi doo doo for a short walk and a hot bath.
