Stereophonic Vision
Call me Batou. This morning I was awake well before the dawn. Stingy eyed I wandered into the garden and stared up for the first time post my 4th eye operation at a universe full of binary stars. Both super moons languished high in the west above both Orion constellations as both of the immensely bright International Space Stations ran serenely high above my head. I'm stood on the back patio holding both coffees, dodging the light from the new dual headed street lamps looking up in awe at the clarity and brightness of both universes.
It's been a while since I last wrote. I've been doing the other things in life that did not need good eyesight which sadly did not include blog writing and video editing. Both of which I normally love doing. That was until the retina detachment in April 2023 and the 18 month imbalance between two of my three eyes. I now have good vision albeit with a little bit of double vision I guess until the drops and plops eventually settle down what must still be a slightly deformed left eyeball. Either that or Einstein has got it completely wrong.
Last years blog final entry was done mainly through dictation and then a bit of squinty editing on screen. It's been a pain to work on the laptop. The banjaxed eyes are my only excuse for not finishing my cycling videos and making more blog entries. For example part two of the 2022 JOGLE thing is woefully delayed and similarly the Inverness to Glasgow west coast cycle ride with the boys from spring this year.
I have been short sighted ever since a child. Every year since, my sight has deteriorated to the point where life was not worth seeing without my glasses on. As wrote last year and as can happen to short sighted people my retina and macula detached themselves from the back of my right eyeball leaving me utterly blind in that eye. Surgeries were done in April 2023 to refix and then again Novermber to replace the blinding cataract caused by the April surgery and then some additional laser in July 2024 to get that sucker properly working without distortion. Then, finally this week I had the cataract surgery on my left eye to bring both eyeballs back into balance.
All rather amazing really. I went to bed last night with a weepy scratchy post operative eye yet found myself staring at the bedside digital clock fantastically glowing with sharpness in the dark. I could not resist opening my eyes every few minutes to gaze at the amber segments as never seen before without glasses.
After a year and a half of banjaxed vision, going outside today into the bright sunshine, with a left eye fresh off the operating table, well, was just GREAT! Breathtakingly clear. Stereophonic! Almost xray like. I am like a smiling Batou post his replacement eye surgery - as seen in this clip from the film - Ghost in the Shell.
Today we live in a fledgling world not dissimilar to this future world - full of ultra capable surgeons and impressive technology. I bought my first pair of reading glasses today as I finally felt ready to sit at the laptop and catch up with a little bit of life.
My apologies for the poor grammar and structure. I need to get back into the swing of writing again.
More to follow. I have lots to tell. Like of last years expedition by my brother to build a bridge between both peaks of Kilimanjaro and the now urgent mission to send a search party to look for both of them post their failed return...
I apologise in advance of what you are about to receive.
Ciao for now.
